There is a path I tread between traditional representation and complete abstraction. I am inspired by the human figure and the need to capture it in its simplest form. Most of these gestural pieces are, for me, figurative. I work with professional dancers and sketch as they move from one pose to another. The works here push further to release the shape of the figure and capture only the gesture or feeling of movement across the surface of the finished painting.

The power and movement of the Atlantic Ocean as experienced from the shores of New York City, Barbados and Cornwall, U.K. greatly influence other gestural works.
