STRATA SERIES
Selected Works
I need to make rhythmic sense of my sometimes chaotic and visually stimulating environment and life. The textures and shapes found in the city, the colors of the ocean, the patterns on rugged rocks, the intricate details of coral are typical of my inspirations. Also at play are the images and patterns of organic tissue that were a constant in my childhood, through my late father’s work in a hospital Histology Department laboratory. My father made use of my drawing skills to render images and diagrams of medical microscope slides. His work has seeped into my subconscious. Application and subtraction of layers of paint where these elements flicker in and out of visibility, sometimes eclipsing what has gone before, builds up with time, patience, movement, music and emotion. Thus Strata refers to the layers in rock formations, the layers of my life, the layers of organic tissue and the layers of the art.
